CHILDREN at Cliff Park High School, Gorleston took the Carbon Challenge to find out how green their school is in a scheme organised by BP.
Head of Sciences Catherine Ford said: “Youngsters in years nine and 10 looked at the effect of our own carbon footprint and what they could do to reduce it. The two obvious ones were cycling or walking to school. It's part of BP's Enterprising Science workshop which visited the school. The workshop gave the children the opportunity to develop a carbon reduction plans for a fictional 'Carbon College.'
“They were challenged to develop plans to cut their own school's carbon footprint, and then share their success stories with other schools on via BP's Enterprising Science website www.enterprisingscience.com .”
Research carried out by BP and the Energy Savings Trust shows that 14-16 year olds have a relatively low awareness of climate change issues.
