A DROUGHT of grant funding has led to the closure next week of seven Community Liaison Information Points (CLIPs) across the Great Yarmouth borough.

The CLIPs, provided by social inclusion organisation Community Connections, were largely funded with money from the Working Neighbourhoods Fund, but this financial support ends next week.

Despite a desperate search for alternative funding Trish Aydin, the organisation's chief executive, said they had no option but to shut the seven CLIPs in Martham, Cobholm, North Yarmouth, Gorleston library and Magdalen Estate, Runham Vauxhall and Caister with the loss of three full-time posts.

The decision to axe the service means the community will lose a service for vulnerable and isolated people which provided information on transport timetables and other services available in the area.

Trish added Community Connections had enough money to fund the organisation's five other staff- three community development workers, a community development team leader and community inclusion worker- until June, but unless further grant money could be fund these positions would have to be axed as well.
