Nathan James started his involvement with music when he was 15 spending school dinner times racing to his friend Chris’ house to mix dance music. After he left school he went on to work in the clubs of Norwich: Ikon, Nick’s Place and many others. He then went on to work for a local RSL called Crown FM while DJjing mobile discos at weekends. Nathan started his own internet radio for DJs in Norwich and hosted events in Norwich night clubs. One of the original team of presenters from 1993, Phil Marshall was a member of Hospital Radio Yare for 30 years until 2010. Nowadays – not having been near a radio studio since – he describes himself as “rusty”! Phil spent his first few years with Radio Yare anxiously avoiding microphones. It was only as the station modernised and had less need for backroom engineers he reluctantly came to a conclusion he’d either have to conquer a fear of broadcasting.

Phobia conquered, Phil presented a wide variety of shows for Radio Yare and was for several years the station manager and programme controller.

Of his coming Coastal Radio broadcasts Phil says, with no experience of broadcasting daily and a dislike of modern record-free studios and the lack of variety commercial radio playlists, “it’ll be a challenge” - the question is how many times he can deviate from the approved playlist before getting chucked in the river!

Thankfully, as a member of the National Coastwatch team at Caister, Phil is on first name terms with the lifeboat crew which is handy - as he may be needing them!
