ALMOST 100 shoeboxes were filled with presents and sweets by staff and students at Great Yarmouth College in aid of Romanian children.

The 94 boxes were wrapped in paper and packed with donated toys, toiletries, sweets and other gifts for Radio Broadland's Load the Lorry Appeal. The gifts were collected by the Black Thunder team.

Sandy Ratcliffe, who co-ordinated the collection, said the response to a last-minute appeal three days before the deadline had been overwhelming.

“Staff and students in our learning development team made up 10 boxes. Some people brought in individual items and we made up more boxes with them. We were delighted with the number we could hand over when the Black Thunder came to collect them.”

Daphne King, college vice principal, said the response was typical of the college's staff and students' willingness to give.

“Some of the students put such time and effort into the boxes with lots of little details and packing so much in. We are thrilled,” she said.
