MANY hands made light work as team set about the task of transforming the appearance of a previously neglected part of town.

A bit of elbow grease and Tar Works Road was looking back to its best as a result of last week's clean up.

Members from disabled charity Centre 81 helped out along with Primo's Gardeners to collect rubbish and tidy verges.

The clean up was organised by Community Connections and North Yarmouth Safer Neighbourhood Team with the support of Anglian Water's River Care scheme.

The task was identified as a priority at a recent meeting of the North Yarmouth Key Individual Network Group, which sets policing priorities for the area.

Community development worker Mark Llewellyn, who organised the event, said: “We realised there was a lot that could be done along here and had already removed a wrecked boat left near the river.

“Everyone who has taken part has done a great job and we must have collected about 20 bags of rubbish.

“There has been a lot of help from GYB services staff too, who filled in the pot holes along the road.”

Amongst those taking part was Tony Nash from Centre 81. He said: “This has made a big difference - I never knew how much rubbish there could be in one small area.

“I hope it will encourage people to take responsibility for looking after their own doorstep.

“I would like to see more young people helping out, if disabled people can get involved anyone can.”
