TWO new police sergeants will now be patrolling the North Yarmouth area - and have promised to get tough on anti-social behaviour, vandalism and other crimes plaguing the area.

Acting Sgt Les Elliot and Sgt Mike French have joined the North Yarmouth safer neighbourhood team (SNT), increasing the number of sergeants on the team.

As well as helping tackle crime, the pair will also be overseeing the introduction of new community confidence panels giving eight representatives of the community the chance to quiz the police on crime-related matters and suggest areas where policing could improve.

Insp Nick Russell, who heads North Yarmouth SNT, said: “I am really pleased they are both on the team. I think they bring a lot of experience to North Yarmouth and I think the area is lucky to have them both.

Father-of-two Sgt French said: “My responsibilities are very much community and customer focused. Les and myself will be overseeing and supervising the team from the North Yarmouth area.

“We are aimed at community policing which involves finding out what the problems are in the local community and dealing with them efficiently and getting out there in a more pro-active way.”
