A NEW bereavement group will meet in Great Yarmouth next month offering support as well as complimentary therapies.

The new Sunrise Friendship bereavement group will meet at the Cobholm and Lichfield Resource Centre on March 18, from 2pm to 4pm and in Lowestoft, at the Aspire Centre Denes High School on March 2, also from 2pm and 4pm.

Future meetings will be at Lowestoft on the first Monday of every month and at Yarmouth on the third Wednesday of every month.

The group was established after a grant was awarded from NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney small grants programme.

This will be a social group where people can come and talk to others in a similar situation, have a cup of tea/coffee or even have a good cry if they feel like it.

There will be skilled listeners available at every meeting for those that would like to talk to them and every month there will be the opportunity to have a short session of holistic therapy such as Indian head massage, reiki, reflexology, hand and wrist massage.

This therapy will be alternating monthly between Yarmouth and Lowestoft and is open to anyone over the age of 18.

The bereavement can be recent but if you are dealing with bereavement issues from the past the group would be happy to see you. If you think you would find it difficult to attend the group on your own, arrangements can be made for you to be met at the door.

At the moment this group is being overseen by support workers from Yarmouth and Waveney Mind and the bereavement councillors within the James Paget University Hospital palliative care department.
