COULD you be the next Miss Great Yarmouth and Gorleston? The search has been launched this week to find the special someone with the looks and personality to be the face of the town for the next 12 months.

The winner will be chosen at the crowning ceremony held at the historic Priory Centre on Saturday, October 17.

All ten finalists will receive a glamorous makeover for the evening from Headrush hair salon in Yarmouth.

The competition is organised by the Yarmouth branch of Cancer Research UK with support from Warband UK battle re-enactment society, The Priory Centre and Anglia Copy and Print. The Mercury is the media partner.

Miss Great Yarmouth and Gorleston will attend a year long diary of charity fundraisers, public events and private functions accompanied by a Viking guard of honour from Warband UK.

Applicants must be 18 and over, and live in the borough of Great Yarmouth.

Entry forms are available in the Mercury and from the Cancer Research Shop in Regent Street. Completed forms should be returned to Miss Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Competition, The Mercury, 169 King Street, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2PA.

The closing date for entries is 9am on Friday, October 9.

A photograph with face in full view must be supplied with the application.

A panel of judges, including editor of the Mercury Anne Edwards, will go through all applications and 10 will be chosen to go through to the finals night at the Priory Centre. The judging criteria will be based on the answer to the question: Why do you feel you should be chosen as the Ambassador of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston?

No correspondence will be entered into and the judges' decision will be final.

On the Finals Night, all 10 candidates will be interviewed on stage before the final judging takes place.

For an entry form see this Friday's Mercury.
