A seaside parish council hit by a wave of resignations is back up to strength following an election.

Sea Palling and Waxham council was left without enough members to legally function in June after six councillors resigned following a row over whether an election was needed to fill a single vacancy on the council.

Four district councillors were parachuted in to keep the parish ticking over as an interim emergency plan.

But an election has now seen four people picked from six candidates. The poll was topped by Christine Perkins with 70 votes, followed by Roy Simpson (68), Russell Tanner (60) and Jolyon Bird (48). They join David Russell, Mary Vacca and Lesley Bellerby on the council whose meeting this week will decide on a new chairman.

The unsuccessful candidates in the election, which had a turnout of 25pc, were Michael French (30 votes) and Myles Crowder (27).

Cromer town council clerk Julie Chance is also currently the acting clerk for the parish.
