Much more than scarecrows at Martham’s annual fun extravanganza

More than 100 scarecrows will feature at a village’s popular annual event.
Martham Scarecrow Festival takes place on the village greens and various other locations over the bank holiday weekend, Sunday and Monday, May 6 and 7. Both days from 10am to 5pm.
Programmes with details of the event, maps of the village, locations of scarecrows, as well as a family treasure hunt and children’s treasure hunt will be on sale from the large marquee on the green by the Co-op in the centre of village for £1.
Refreshments will be available on the village green, businesses within the village and at the churches.
There will be so much to see and do, from the craft and charity stalls on the green, to the Chainsaw Carvers.
St Mary’s Church on Black Street is hosting an art exhibition and weather permitting people will be able to climb the church tower.
Cornerstone Baptist Church on the green will be broadcasting on Faithful Radio along with a small flower festival and miniature world competition.

The Methodist Church, also on the green, will be holding an Alphabet flower festival and this will also be open on the Saturday.
A fair will be on the main green.
On Saturday, May 5 the Social Club, on Playing Field Lane have The Misfit Collectives playing from 9pm.
This is the last year the event will be organised by the same group of people – after 11 years they are handing over the reins to a group of villagers who have expressed an interest in taking it for 2019.
With the support of many people, the previous festivals have been able to support many village projects including the community centre, youth club, Christmas lights, Christmas tree, and seats on the green and in St Mary’s churchyard.
Parking is available at the playing field on Rollesby Road, the fire station on Rollesby Road, the Victoria public house on Repps Road, Martham Academy School on Black Street and the village hall on White Street.
Organisers are asking visitors to please park with care at these locations.
