A COUPLE who used to run Bradwell Post Office appeared before Grewt Yarmouth magistrates charged with stealing 111,096 from the Post Office.

Jaquline and Robert Humphrey, former postmistress and postmaster of the Beccles Road branch, were both charged with theft over a period from March 1 2007 until April 1 last year.

The pair were given unconditional bail to return to court on October 2, after Friday's hearing was adjourned.

The Beccles Road Post Office closed earlier than planned on July 17 after three electricity engineers switched the power off, leaving postmistress Clair Griffin, 26, and her part-time colleague Rowena Buchan just 10 minutes to leave.

The Post Office had planned to move the branch to its new location at the village's Premier stores in Church Lane, but was hoping to keep the Beccles Road outlet open until the new branch was ready.
