A gravestone in Great Yarmouth has been defaced with spray paint.
An offensive phrase has been sprayed onto a late 19th-century grave - belonging to the Runacre family - in the Old Cemetery between East Road and Factory Road.
Madeline Flaxman discovered the grave's condition while she was walking through the graveyard on Monday morning.
She said: "I’m just so disgusted someone could do something like that to a grave.
"The vandalism around town right now is terrible. And it gives a bad reputation to those who put such good graffiti art out there."
A Great Yarmouth Borough Council spokesperson said: "The council is extremely disappointed to see the disrespectful actions from a few mindless individuals, which show a total lack of respect for those laid to rest in the churchyard and their loved ones who visit them.
"Our teams are aware and dealing with the removal of this vandalism, to ensure the gravestone is cleaned."
The council is appealing to help identify the offenders so police can take action.
Anyone with information can contact Norfolk Police at 101 or Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
