THE South Broads lifeboat was called out to St Olaves Marina in the early hours this morning to assist firefighters tackling a blaze on board a 44ft cruiser.
The inshore lifeboat Lord Kitchener was dispatched at about 2.20am following reports of a fire on board a Birchwood motor cruiser.
Despite thick fog the lifeboat crew were on scene by 2.50am and once the blaze was under control lifeboatmen covered crews using breathing apparatus near the water.
A second team from the South Broads station with the 4x4 vehicle were also on scene and worked with St Olaves Marina staff to put out anti-pollution booms.
The fire was eventually extinguished and although the vessel was very low in the water, marina staff and firefighters were satisfied the anti-pollution booms would prevent any damage to the environment.
The lifeboat crew was stood down at about 5am.
