A hat-trick of wins for Caitlin (Cat) Smith at a national dance competition helped a Great Yarmouth dance troupe clean up with a host of awards on Sunday.

The 11-year-old, from Gorleston, travelled with the Freestyle Dance Company to Kent to battle it out with competitors from across the country and came away with three first rankings in the solo, duo and team sections.

Her father Stuart Smith said she had only been with the hip-hop outfit for a year - making her achievement all the more remarkable - and was competing against older girls in the under 14's category.

He added it was a good result for the whole troupe with each person attaining a prize of some sort.

It was the company's third and most successful visit to a UDO championship for the local dancers whose ages range from four to 30.

One of the highlights was said to be the nine-strong Dem Brats team who won first place in the under 14's newcomers.

Freestyle Dance Company is a street dance and hip hop based dance school holding classes every Tuesday at The Casstle behind Alderman Swindell School in Yarmouth and a competitors practice night on Thursdays at Wroughton Infants School, Gorleston. To find out more call Esther on 07837 455020.
