A dancing duo have waltzed to more success after winning a national championship in Blackpool.

Clive and Jan Denby, of Church Lane, Bradwell, who have been dancing for five years, won the Stars of Tomorrow competition for Latin dancing, rounding off a year of achievements.

Over the past 12 months, they also finished top of the league at the Bournemouth closed championship finals, and came second at the closed UK Championships.

As a result of their success they have been promoted from novice to intermediate and pre-championship level.

Mr Denby, said: “Dancing at Blackpool for a dancer is like playing at Wembley for a footballer - as the atmosphere just cannot be matched elsewhere.

“Whatever level you dance at, there is the prestige of knowing you have won at Blackpool, so this for us, finished off a twelve month period that could not have gone better, leaving us number one in our category of Novice Latin.”

The couple starting dancing 10 years ago when they got married, and have said that once they got the bug, it took over their lives.

They started competing more than five years ago, entering regional competitions throughout the country which are held almost every other week.

The pair are trained by Nigel and Larinda Smith, who are themselves past champions representing England at home and abroad during their competing years.

They then turned professional in 1995 and oped their own school, L.A.N.S School of Dance in Great Yarmouth, which has been running now for 20 years.

They teach all levels from beginner to professional, and have pass success with other students also winning national dance titles.

He said: “None of this would be possible without the support and patience of our instructors Nigel and Larinda Smith -to whom we owe everything.

“We are going to continue dancing this year, but things will be a lot tougher now as we automatically get promoted to Intermediate and pre championship levels, where restrictions are lifted and it all becomes a lot harder - still, that gives us something to aim for in the coming months.

“We are also still training each week in ballroom, but do not seem to have the success in that field that we do in Latin.

“However Nigel has said that 2016 is going to be ballroom year, so we will have to wait to see what develops on that one.”
