THE body of a baby seal has been washed up on Scratby beach just over a week after a baby porpoise was found dead with a large gash mark on its body on the same stretch.

Reader Chris Hogg sent two photographs which were taken at low water yesterday at about 3.30pm. The seal was about 50 yards south of where the porpoise was found on Friday, February 1.

He said: “Again the body is just below the high water mark. The black line is actually a piece of hose part buried in the sand which has been there for weeks.”

Mr Hogg took the pictures from the cliff top but said they clearly showed the decapitated body of a baby seal.

“The body is again in good condition it's just that the head is missing.”

The bite marks on the baby porpoise created massive speculation last week - with a US expert asserting it had been attacked by a shark, and others suggested a killer whale or a dolphin was the culprit.
