Rollerskaters are celebrating their best-ever medal success adding a haul of silverware to the trophy cabinet and bringing home 16 British titles to Great Yarmouth.

Some 18 hopefuls travelled to Kettering at the weekend, exceeding even their highest hopes and achieving podium places in virtually every event - often clinching all three first, second and third positions.

Those bagging British titles were:

• Fraia Wicks - Tots Title (2)

• Molly Self- Mini Title (2) • Ellen Siegert - Espoir Title (3)

• Dulcie Read - Cadet Title (2)

• Solomon Read - Boys Tots Title (3)

• Harlee Wicks - Mini Boys Titles (3)

• Christoph Prior - Espoir Mens Title (1)

Adding to their joy was the selection of four competitors for the Cup of Europe which takes place in Italy in November and the European Championships held at the end of August in Freiburg, Germany. The talented four were Ellen Siegert, Daisy Jennings, Harlee Wicks, and Dulcie Read.

Donna Wicks said club members were shocked by their dominance of the competition.

The latest “amazing” results were further evidence, she added, of the importance of having a dedicated rink at a time when the borough council was looking to axe the facility under plans to remodel its Marina Centre home on Great Yarmouth’s seafront.

Being part of a successful team had other benefits giving the youngsters focus, dedication and commitment that would be useful to them in all spheres of life, she said.

It brings the total number of titles won in six years to 43.

Meanwhile the club is looking for sponsors for its new kit.
