Members of a yacht club have banded together to fundraise for the installation of a defibrillator at a Norfolk Broads pub.

On Saturday the Lady Yacht Club officially handed over the life-saving device to Thurne Parish Council at the Thurne Lion pub.

The Lady Yacht Club donated the public access defibrillator after two of its members tried to save the life of a pleasure boater exactly a year ago.

They carried out CPR until the air ambulance arrived, however the male pleasure boater died.

The funds for the defibrillator were raised by the club’s 50 members.

It is the first public access defibrillator donated by a club on the Broads, although other clubs have one at their own clubhouse.

The Lady Yacht Club has been sailing on the Broads at Thurne for more 70 years and is said to be unique as it was started by workers on the boatyards.
