Art and community have combined to come up with a series of designs that best reflect the Great Yarmouth area, people and history.
The images will be carved into slate discs decorated with gold leaf and hung on the front of Yarmouth's revamped central library.
They emerged from a series of workshops held at the library in Tolhouse Street involving 200 people. The groups came up with ten designs with the public voting on which six they liked the best. The most popular designs were:
Windmills and Turbines - 81 votes, The Silver Darlings - 72 votes, The Rhythm of the Sea - 66 votes, Little Terns and Seagulls - 65 votes, The Boat of Community - 62 votes, Scottish Girl Sweethearts - 61 votes.
Artist Charlotte Howarth said: “The group have been so enthusiastic and have produced some really striking pieces of art that show what Great Yarmouth means to them. It's been a fantastic project to be involved with and I've really enjoyed meeting the group and getting to know them all. It will be great for the group to see the result of their hard work and creativity on display at the library.
“As well as creating six lasting artworks for the library, one of the main aims was to bring the local community together through a project that would benefit Great Yarmouth. For such a large group of people of different ages and backgrounds to come together and create an art collection that really sums up the town is a great achievement and hopefully the final slate pieces will be something that the community can be really proud of.”
Ms Howarth aims to have the final pieces finished later this year.
