Long-time Caister couple Ronnie and Iris Hubbard celebrated their special day with a card from the Queen and a meal at Caister Castle 60 years after marrying at St Peter's Church, Gorleston

Mrs Hubbard, who with her husband has nine great grandchildren, enjoyed the day. She said: “Our three sons took us out and we had a good time, we got a nice bunch of flowers and a cake and everything.”

Recalling the wedding, the 77-year-old added: “There was rationing so we had to put all our coupons together for the wedding feast and rely on friends' beverages.

“The secret to a long and happy marriage is to let the old man think he is in charge and you keep the home fires burning.”

A former member of the Navy, Mr Hubbard, 82 , recalled the first time his mother met his future wife: “She went to check her out at Woolworths where Iris worked, and said that she needed a good dinner inside of her.”
