The disabled children’s support charity, Shine, has submitted plans to Great Yarmouth Borough Council for a purpose-built headquarters on its site in Alpha Road, Gorleston.

The charity, formerly Great Yarmouth and Waveney Contact, has applied for grants and is organising fundraising to meet the 600,000 cost of the scheme, which would involve bulldozing the current prefabricated structure.

Louise Eastwood, chairman of the charity which runs activity sessions and offers family support as well as organising holiday play schemes, said: “The present building is expensive to heat and outside space is limited. There is also no proper office space.”

The charity provides support for youngsters mainly with learning disabilities, ranging in age from six to 16.

Dr Eastwood said the charity already had about 140,000 in the bank for the project, which had been raised several years ago by local charity marathon runner Ray Mouncey.
