An unusual donation has brewed up a mystery at a Great Yarmouth centre for older people.

A taxi pulled up outside Age Concern’s Acorn Centre in Regent Street this week laden with all the ingredients for a perfect cuppa, including biscuits to dunk.

Stunned staff said they were delighted with the anonymous gift which meant more money could be spent on vital services.

The handy haul comprised several dozen cartons of long-life milk, a giant supply of tea bags, and some sweet treats.

A spokesman said everyone was surprised, but that the items were much appreciated.

Volunteers and centre users drank tea throughout the day so it was a great benefit.

Jackie Tierney, Age Concern services manager, said she was keen to thank the “very kind lady” who had booked the taxi and had the goods delivered.

The Acorn Centre opened in the former Poundstretcher store in April offering a range of social activities for the over 50s with daily sessions and time-tabled activities.
