A DOUBLE cheese-burger from a McDonald's restaurant landed a 21-year-old with a £175 legal bill after he became violent and smashed up a chip-and-pin machine.

Chadley Pitts destroyed the card-reading machine when staff refused to take his order after he had insulted and spat at them.

Yesterday, he was fined £100 and made to pay £75 in costs and compensation after he admitted breaking the card machine at the Regent Road restaurant in Yarmouth on the evening of October 11.

Yarmouth magistrates heard that Pitts, of Howard Street South, Yarmouth, had been drinking before he entered McDonald's and he then started to insult the staff and threw a coin and spat at them.
