A YARMOUTH resident rescued two children from a neighbouring house during a fire late last night.

Fire service spokesman Martin Barsby said firefighters then helped two adults from the building during the dramatic rescue in Rodney Road, Great Yarmouth at 11.45pm on Thursday.

The fire crews also evacuated homes neighbouring the burning property after discovering a gas main was in danger from the flames.

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack following a campaign of racial harassment directed towards the occupants of the house affected by the blaze, which also destroyed a mobility scooter.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
