AFTER achieving a dramatic weight loss, a Great Yarmouth man suffered a succession of health problems caused by years of obesity.
Denis Clark is finally reaping the benefits of shedding 10 stone after undergoing a series of operations in the last few months.
It was a legacy of 25 years of being overweight for the former chef, who at his heaviest weighed 22 stone.
Since then Denis has had to draw on all his strength of character coping with going under the surgeons' knife five times.
In his most recent operation Denis had folds of loose skin removed from his stomach, leaving a 24 inch scar across his torso.

The 58 year old had both knees replaced after years of wear and tear supporting his bulky frame, suffered a strangulated hernia as a result of fractured stomach and had a lump on his tongue removed.
“I had about four kilos of skin and tissue cut away during the stomach operation, it was overlapping in folds on my stomach and could have caused infections,” said Denis.
“Before my first knee was replaced I was so crippled that I couldn't even leave the house and I had my hernia removed just six weeks before that.
“It was tough having to cope with all this just when I was hoping to enjoy the benefits of my changed lifestyle, but I was determined to get through. Now at last I am feeling absolutely fantastic and can finally say it was all worth it.
“What has happened to me just shows how much obesity can continue to cause health problems, even after losing weight.”
The hernia was caused by pressure on the stomach from over-eating and the growth on the tongue blamed on years of a bad diet.
It was just of two years ago that Denis summoned up the will power to finally tackle his weight problem, changing his diet and giving up smoking and drinking almost overnight.
The achievement was all the more remarkable as he did not join a slimming club or follow a weight loss plan.
A father of a grown up family, Denis was finally inspired to slim down to tackle arthritis he suffered for 20 years.
After piling on the pounds cooking and serving food on oil rigs and cruise liners he now enjoys plenty of fruit and vegetables, fish and wholemeal bread and takes regular exercise.
Now Denis is hoping to resume his career as a chef after being on invalidity benefit for several years.
He said: “This has been absolutely life changing and something that I had wanted to do for such a long time. I really feel my persistence has paid off and feel really great for the first time in years.”
