A woman who caused a crash by pulling out in front of a bus on a dangerous stretch of road has been fined and had three penalty points put on her driving license.

Suzanne Lake, 39, of Marsh Road, South Walsham, near Acle, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The court was told she was driving on the A47 at North Burlingham on January 5 when she went into the central reservation to cross the Norwich-bound lane to go to Lingwood.

Prosecutor, Anna Crayford said: “She pulled out to cross and a single-decker bus, which was heading towards Norwich, collided with her Ford Mondeo.

“The bus driver tried to take avoiding action and collided with a Scania HGV, which was waiting at the junction of the road to Lingwood.

“The bus driver and four passengers on the bus sustained injury and damage was caused to all three vehicles.”

Mrs Lake, who was not represented in court, said in mitigation: “I thought the bus was indicating to turn left and I thought I had right of way. All I can do is apologise.”

She said she suffered a smashed wrist in the accident and had only just started driving again.

Chairman of the bench Barbara Goodwin sympathised with the defendant and said: “This was a slight misjudgement at an accident prone junction.”

Lake was fined 70 with a 15 victim surcharge and ordered to pay 35 costs.
