The warning from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team follows a theft from motor vehicle in Martham on Thursday.

A window was smashed and a stereo and Garmin sat nav were stolen from a black Hyundai on Trelawny Road between 12.30am and 8am.

People are reminded not to leave valuables on display in their car while parked particularly in isolated rural car parks.

Items such as sat navs or a mount for a sat nav system can attract the attention of thieves.

Motorists are advised to take the following security measures:

Leave vehicles locked and secure at all times - even if left unattended for only a minute.

Remove all valuables and personal belongings from the vehicle.

Audio equipment, sat navs, mobile phones, laptops and handbags are particularly sought after - remove evidence of these from your vehicle when out and about or even overnight.

Property mark your valuables so if they are stolen, they can be more easily traced if recovered.

Anyone with information about the theft should contact the Rural Flegg SNT on 0845 456 4567.
