A PLUMBER who drove more than double the speed limit on a main road into Great Yarmouth has escaped a driving ban because he said he would not be able to find a job.
Peter Sullivan, 24, of Collingwood Road, was instead given six points on his licence and fined £120 after he admitted doing 65mph in his Vauxhall Cavalier in Pasteur Road at 8pm on December 4 last year. The road has a speed limit of 30mph.
Yarmouth magistrates heard today that Collingwood needed to drive to Fakenham and Downham Market to find plumbing jobs as there were none in the resort.
Magistrates decided not to ban him and also ordered Sullivan to pay £35 costs and a £15 surcharge.
