A mother who broke her leg in a Viking-themed castle in Fritton had to be airlifted to hospital after a complicated rescue involving a slide.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to Fritton Lake, the scene of a D-Day anniversary exhibition, after the woman fell on stairs near the top of the Fun Fort part of the children’s play area. The team, who had been called out because of the awkward location of the injury, then gave her a spinal board before lowering her down one of the attraction’s slides under the gaze of hundreds of visitors. She was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Steve Norris was pilot on the day. He said: “We had two people going down the slide in front of her and another lowering her down with rope – it was an unusual job.”
He said that after the successful descent a crowd of onlookers broke out into cheers and applause, before an impromptu collection helped raise nearly �100 for the charity.
