A charity swim scheduled to take place over the weekend has been cancelled amid severe weather fears.

Fundraisers had been set to take a dip in the North Sea from Gorleston beach on Sunday, in aid of East Coast Hospice.

However, as the weather forecast grew increasingly severe, it was agreed the event should be cancelled.

Andrea King, head of community fundraising for the charity, said: “Upon discussions with a senior coastal operations officer and the launching operations manager for the Gorleston lifeboat station, we agreed that given the forecast weather this is the right decision.

“The wind strength and wind chill factor forecast for Sunday are severe, meaning conditions would not be suitable for the welfare of those attending.

“East Coast Hospice would like to thank everyone who had offered their support to the event.”

The event had originally been scheduled for New Year’s Day, but was later postponed.
