Cliff Park Junior school achieves record SAT results after being placed into special measures
VAST improvements are being made at a school which has achieved record SATs results - just weeks after it was placed into special measures by Ofsted.
Pupils in Key Stage 2 at Cliff Park junior school smashed the target of 75pc of children to achieve levels 4 in both English and maths, with 84.4pc, recording the best SAT results in the school’s history.
Headteacher Chris Tye said: “These results should mean we are in line with, or above, national levels in reading, writing and maths for level 4 and above and level 5 achievement, as well as being significantly above the floor target for the percentage of children achieving level 4 and above in both English and maths.”
He added one pupil achieved level 6 in maths with another being awarded level 6 in English.
“The children and staff have every reason to feel very proud of their achievements and we have received some very positive feedback from parents.”

The good news comes just a matter of weeks after the school was made subject to special measures by Ofsted inspectors. They visited in April and reported it failed to give pupils an acceptable standard of education.
Lead inspector Cheryl Thompson gave leaders at the school a number of areas to improve and also asked children to help by working on their writing skills.

Mr Tye said: “The improvement in SATs results is particularly important as our current Year 6 has been the first cohort of children who have been with us for the whole of KS2, from Year 3 to Year 6, since the school re-organised from a middle to junior school.
“Although this has been a very encouraging set of results, the whole school community is still striving to make improvements following the judgement by Ofsted in April.
“We continue to be challenged and supported by our local authority partners, governors and parents to drive forward progress in standards for all our children.
“The staff have made a commitment to work tirelessly to ensure that these results are maintained and improved upon in the future and we believe that we have the platform to propel the school forward.”
