Ormiston Herman Academy have been busy participating in Den Day in aid of Save the Children.
Parents and families kindly donated resources such as sticks, fabric, poles and other useful items.
These were collected in school ready for pupils to use.
Firstly, the school had a special assembly given by a Save the Children spokesperson who came in to talk to the children about their rights and how in some parts of the world children’s rights are jeopardised. This helped our pupils to understand that for some children building a den would be the only way to ensure they have a roof over their head at night.
The den building then began.

The young ones worked in small groups, each group helped by Year 6 students, to build their den. They had to ensure that the den was freestanding and that all group members could fit inside. After several hours of work, and a battle with windy weather conditions, the dens were completed and parents were invited in to look at all the hard work. Parents donated their copper coins to their favourite den, hence helping raise money for the Save the Children charity. Pupils also each donated 50p to come to school in non-uniform.
