The wheels of fundraising success were set in motion in Great Yarmouth as more than £800 was raised for Great Ormond Street Childrens’ Hospital, and Help an East Coast Child.

Retailer staff got their cycling shoes on at the Market Gates Shopping centre, and pedalled throughout the day.

Between them, they cycled 92 miles, the distance of coast to coast.

Dee Greenwood, deputy centre manager, said: “A big thank you to all those retailers and staff who took part as well as the shoppers who participated in the Shopper Challenge - the youngest of which was 12 years old and the oldest was 72!

“It was a fantastic effort by everyone concerned and congratulations to Victor Ling who cycled just over 3 miles in 10 minutes to win £50 Love2Shop vouchers.”

The staff were split into two teams, with team number two winning as they cycled their miles in under six and a half hours.

Despite having more team members, team number one came in behind their competitors.

Ms Greenwood added: “Finally, a big thank you goes to Wilko who supplied water, Iceland the ice and The Marina Centre, who provided the stationary cycles. All in all, it was one great day for both charities who will each share the monies raised.”
