A Great Yarmouth nursery is celebrating a glowing Ofsted which singles out all aspects of its work and teaching for praise.

Enthusiastic staff at Calthorpe Nursery, in Alexandra Road, are said to motivate children who are “valued and respected” and enjoy a range of activities and trips, inside and out.

Inspectors said the nursery was “good” overall and in all four main categories painting a picture of a lovely setting where just a few tweaks are needed to achieve the very highest “outstanding” rating.

Children are said to be confident and to benefit from exciting outdoor opportunities as well as outings to the nearby St George’s Park and the town’s central library.

They make good progress from their starting points and are willing to try out new things and express their ideas.

The report also praised the good leadership and management with all staff helping children to fulfil their potential.

The nursery was registered in 2014 and has 60 children on roll.

Parent partnerships are also said to be strong and children are said to settle in well when they join, building secure emotional relationships with staff.

Nicola Brind, nursery manager, said: “We’re very happy with this good result, especially as it’s our first Ofsted inspection since we opened and it’s increasingly difficult for settings to receive a good rating.

“My staff have been working so hard and should be extremely proud of their achievements.

“The parents’ support and contributions towards the setting have been amazing.

“Looking forward our hard work will continue, focusing on children’s communication and social skills to ensure that they have the best possible start to their education whilst attending our nursery.”

To be even better children need to be helped to manage their own behaviour and staff need to be helped to continue to improve their quality of teaching.

However, the report notes the manager already carries out regular reviews of the provision, seeks the views and suggestions of staff, parents and children to develop a well-targeted plan to secure ongoing improvements.
