A PROPOSED marriage between a rustic French village and Reedham appears to have hit a rocky patch after the Gallic village failed to return any calls from its Norfolk Broads counterpart.
Parish councillors in Reedham have not heard from their counterparts in Glenac since November, meaning the possible twinning of the two villages may no longer go ahead.
A British ex-pat living in the Brittany village sent out a lonely hearts plea to Norfolk County Council just before Christmas asking if the tiny village, with a population of 810, could be twinned with a similar Broadland village.
The first few months of the relationship appeared to be rosy with representatives from the French village expressing an interest in visiting Norfolk to see Norwich City play and visit Yarmouth Stadium for greyhound racing.
The possibility of arranging school exchange visits and a meeting between Royal British Legion members and their French equivalents was also discussed.
Reedham parish clerk Stephen Williamson said: “The twinning appears to be dead on its feet. We have not heard from the French since last November.”
However, he added the offer of a twinning relationship was still on the table and said he hoped the French would be in touch again soon.
