AN event billed as Great Yarmouth Together proved to be just that - with more 1,000 people enjoying a day of fun and music.

Organisers were thrilled with the turnout, which included many families, and with the quality of acts who took part in the major event of the day, a talent competition.

Held at the Marina Centre on Saturday, the event attracted people of all ages to compete for prizes in the talent contest, and showcase their voices and dance moves.

And, as well as the talent contest and demonstrations by local groups, there were plenty of stalls from community organisations, local services, projects and groups promoting their work, and a special feature showing the history of Yarmouth and its future.

One of the organisers, Trish Aydin, the chief executive of Community Connections: “We had anticipated good attendance from the community and great performances and are very pleased with the quantity, quality and enthusiasm on the night.

“It was all that we could have hoped for and more.

“A lot of commitment and dedication went into the planning, facilitation, marketing and promotion of the event and the end results proved how important community engagement and involvement are, and it further demonstrated that 'Great Yarmouth has Talent'.

“We are so impressed with the contestants who took part we want to organise another talent show and get some talent spotters to attend to give the acts a chance to hopefully be discovered!”

Event administrator Vicky Knights was also impressed with the way the day went. She said: ““This was a record turn out of the community and the first event in Yarmouth that brought together so many talented people for a showcase of singing and dancing from a range of age groups.

“Every act was a winner on the day.”

The four judges of the talent contest were MP Tony Wright, chairman of the Local Strategic Partnership Executive Jane Ratcliffe, the borough council's culture, sport and leisure manager Marie Hartley, and Mercury editor Anne Edwards.
