A TRADITIONAL festive street scene hand-painted on silk by a student with “extraordinary drawing skills” was chosen as Great Yarmouth College’s Christmas card.
The rich coloured tableau was selected in a competition run among art students to come up with a winning design.
Romanian student Catalina Alistar painted the scene just three months after arriving in Britain to study on the college’s Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.
A self-funding student, talented Catalina chose to study at Great Yarmouth College, travelling every day from her uncle’s hone in Norwich, to gain qualifications to apply to university in London to study to become an illustrator.
Her tutor, Kay Smith, said the 19-year-old had extraordinary talent.
“Her drawing skills are phenomenal – incredibly rare. I am sure she would get commissions. The quality and detail are fabulous – very realistic and very sensitive. Her work is amazing.”
Catalina, who was given art materials for her winning design by head of School for Arts and Creative Technologies Jane Gamble, is applying to universities in London. Her dream to run her own art gallery one day.
