Some 200 people are set to give their taste buds a tour of Great Yarmouth as this year’s moveable feast prepares to make tracks.

The annual event staged in aid of Palliative Care East for the Louise Hamilton Centre has become a fun highlight in the charity’s fundraising calendar.

It involves close to 200 people who have a set amount of time for each of three courses in a different restaurant.

The action starts with a mass gathering at the Assembly Rooms in Yarmouth’s town hall with no-one being quite sure as to where they are headed until the night.

To keep service brisk and to prepare for the next wave of diners a whistle will be blown to announce that it is time to move on.

Parties are kept together but mingling is encouraged with regular diners now asking to be sat with new friends they have made during the gourmet gallop.

Transport includes a trip by road train linking the seafront and town centre.

Fundraiser for the charity Maxine Taylor said it was always a fun night, with many people booking year after year.

This year’s culinary course will end at the Pub on the Prom’s new Green Room where there will be entertainment and a raffle extending the night beyond its usual finish of 10pm for those who want to.

Mrs Taylor said there were three restaurants in the town and three on the seafront that were taking part.

Menus had already been prepared and people needed to book by May 25 so they could make their choices and the food could be ordered.

Planning the event this year had been made a little easier because all the restaurants were a similar size, she added.

“It really is a fun night and people that have been coming for the last few years will want to come again. When they have come before we make sure they do not go to the same places again.

“It is a lovely atmosphere and a lot of people know each other now.”

The event is on Tuesday June 14. Tickets are £35.
