A FACEBOOK site dedicated to Great Yarmouth has won thousands of fans in the space of a just a few months. It has proved a popular forum for social networkers to post their comments about living in and visiting the town.

And the site, with a logo showing a spectacular fireworks display, is being used by borough tourism chiefs to promote events and attractions.

Since it was set up, more than 7,000 Facebook fans have been keen to exchange their thoughts. Among those signed up is Terry Griffin, who has been staying in the resort for the past 55 years.

Now 63, Terry first stayed in the town as a boy with his mum and dad and has since spent many a happy holiday there with wife Lesley and daughters Sarah and Claire. The retired factory production worker from Hertfordshire is already planning his next trip to the town he regards as a second home. He says: “I love everything about Yarmouth: it is nice and clean, the people are very friendly, the villages nearby are pretty and the Broads are wonderful to visit. “The Facebook site is very useful, and it is nice to see all the other appreciative comments about the town on there.”

Council head of tourism Alan Carr said: “Social networking sites like Facebook are

changing the way Yarmouth is marketed and help raise the profile of the town amongst younger age groups.”
