A family learning day involving the whole school resulted in the design and creation of model athletic wheelchairs for the 2012 paralympics.

Family members joined their children to learn alongside them in designing and making a model marathon style, three wheeled wheelchair. The children had been inspired by a visit to the Clare Special School in Norwich earlier in the term when they participated in wheelchair football. They found manoeuvring difficult and thought they would like to consider wheelchair design further. The children wanted to make wheelchairs that were comfortable, streamline and funky. The day was organised by the after school engineering club run by community volunteers. Headteacher Mrs Fearns said: “The day was fantastic in bringing our community together in thinking about diversity.” There were prizes for the best design, most innovative idea and the chair that travelled the furthest. Archie Hagan, aged eight won the best design prize. He said: “It was great fun you could use your imagination to make something brilliant.”
