ONE of Great Yarmouth's most popular seafront nightspots has been put on the market for almost 1m.

The Long Bar Complex, on Marine Parade, is up for sale with a price tag of 999,500.

The family-run business includes the Long Bar, Bar X and lap dancing club Angels, and the sale has been described as a rare opportunity to move into a prime Golden Mile site.

Businessman Mike Butcher has owned the seafront nightspot since June 1990 and in that time opened Bar X and Angels.

This week he refused to comment on the reasons for selling-up.

The Long Bar boasts a 65ft serving counter, hot food outlet and 6am licence, while the 1970s themed Bar X is kitted out with plasma screens and disco lighting. The lap dancing club at Angels opened in April 2001.

Jane Sykes, of agents Fleurets East Anglia office, said: “This is a well established business which has been in the same family ownership for many years. With such a varied offering, its success has much to do with appealing to a wide range of clientele. The venue benefits from a 6 am licence and is a rare opportunity in a prime Golden Mile position.”

The Long Bar used to be part of the Queens Hotel complex - one of Yarmouth's leading hotels in the 1960s where acts such as the Beverley Sisters performed and stayed.

Since the early 1970s the Long Bar has been a licensed premises and when the hotel, known as the New Beach, was up for sale in 1990 Mr Butcher purchased the ground floor bars and lower ground floor, which is now Angels.

The hotel was kept in separate ownership.

In that time Mr Butcher has refurbished the complex including a total refit of all three bars and facilities including a total re-wire to bring the complex up-to-date.
