THE brother of a 19-year-old man, who is alleged to have been stabbed to death by his father, told a jury on Wednesday how he thought his father had been messing about when he phoned him to tell him something had happened to his brother.

David Farmbrough, 52, denies murdering his son Peter, 19, in July last year at the flat they shared in Silver Road, Norwich.

Giving evidence, Peter's eldest brother, Ashley 23, told the jury at Norwich Crown Court how he had a big argument with his brother earlier in the evening after he teased him about a sexual fling he had with a girl at a nightclub in Norwich which was frequented by homosexuals. His brother had shouted at him and said he would not tell him anything again and threatened to “sort him out”

It was later that night that his father had phoned him to tell him something had happened to Peter.

He said: “Something has happened to Peter, he is in the kitchen, the ambulance and police are here.”

Ashley Farmbrough said that he did not believe his father. He said he thought his father had been drinking or joking and putting on a good show.

It was not until police called at his address in Great Yarmouth in the early hours of the morning that he was told the news of his brother's death.

He said that normally he and his brother and father got along well and described them as close.

He said his father had never been violent towards him or violent towards his brother in the past eight years, although he said there was an element of physical contact between them as they used to wrestle with each other.

He said his brother had been upset at the break-up of his parent's marriage in 1996, and hoped they would get back together again.

The court also heard from a witness, Andrea Wukstova, who lived in the next door flat to the Farmboroughs in Silver Road, who told how she had been woken up by an argument which sounded as though it came from two people.

She said she then heard something heavy being dropped on the floor like a TV or radio and it then went quiet.

Another neighbour, Maureen Barker, told how on the night Peter was stabbed she was woken up in the night by noises which sounded like two people fighting.

The trial continues.
