‘It was a really deep cut towards his neck’ - Father tells of how he rushed to the aid of suspected stabbing victim

A father has told how he rushed to the aid of a young victim of a suspected stabbing in Great Yarmouth.
Barry Shatford, 40, who lives near Paget Road in Great Yarmouth, said he immediately rushed to help after seeing the young man walking down his road with a heavily blood-stained jumper.
Mr Shatford, who has a 16-year-old son, said: “I looked out of the window and saw that somebody was bleeding.
“It was a really deep cut towards the back of his neck so I shouted to a neighbour to call an ambulance and bring me a clean cloth of some kind.
“I asked the lad what had happened and he told me he had been stabbed and that he was feeling sick and dizzy.
“He had been walking around in a bit of a daze so I sat him down and looked after him the best I could.”
Mr Shatford then held the cloth to the man’s head, holding his head as still as possible until paramedics arrived.

He said: “I just did what I could - I feel if I didn’t try and do something, then maybe nobody would.
“I suffer from depression and anxiety so just leaving the house is quite a big challenge for me, but I was acting on pure instinct.
“Once the paramedics and the air ambulance arrived I just let them get on with their job and went home.”
The incident happened at around 2,30pm on Friday, January 12, stemming from what a police spokesman described as a dispute between two men.
The incident happened on Paget Road in the town, near to the Hollywood Cinema, with part of the area cordoned off to the public for some time afterwards.,
The injured man, believed to be aged in his late teens to early 20s, was taken to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston by the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the victims injuries were thought to be serious, but not life-threatening.
