A FATHER of three died and six others, including his children, were hurt in a crash on the A12 between Hopton and the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston at 7pm on Saturday.
A 38-year-old Northamptonshire man died at the scene. His wife, aged 40, and their children, aged 14, 10 and two, were taken to the James Paget. Their injuries were described as “not life-threatening” by police. The father was driving a blue Ford Escort south-bound when the collision happened with a silver BMW coupé travelling in the other direction.
Two local men, aged 39 and 36, who were in the BMW, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A third man from the BMW was still in the James Paget last night, and his condition was described as “not life-threatening”.
It was initially feared that the crash could claim two lives as, when ambulance crews attended, one person - thought to be the third man in the BMW - was in a critical condition. The road was closed for several hours.
