CHRISTMAS came early for a delighted audience of old folk when they enjoyed music, dancing and a festive feast in Hemsby.

More than 300 members of Age Concern Great Yarmouth flocked from across the borough to fill Seacroft holiday village for the charity’s annual turkey and tinsel event.

Mayor of Yarmouth Colleen Walker joined the guests on Friday as they enjoyed a roast turkey lunch, live music and entertainment.

They also turned back the clock to take part in a spot of dancing, which was enjoyed even by those who can no longer take a twirl.

Jackie Tierney, older people’s development worker with Age Concern, said: “It’s nostalgic for them because that’s their era, they were brought up in dance halls. Even those who can’t quite manage to dance, it’s still nice for them to watch the others and enjoy the music.”

Youngsters from Caister First School’s choir sang carols while a team from Seacroft put on a special Christmas show. A game of bingo closed the afternoon of entertainment.

Jackie said scores of members looked forward to the dinner, which gave them opportunity to get out, meet friends and enjoy a day of entertainment.

She also wished to thank the team at Seacroft and Reynolds Coaches for their help transporting guests to and from the venue.

A second turkey and tinsel event is being held for a further 250 members this Friday, December 14.
