AN investigation into a fifth fox found dead recently near Caister lifeboat station was halted after it was discovered the animal had been shot rather than poisoned.
Officers from Natural England investigated last Friday after a farmer reported finding the body while walking his dog near the station. The investigation was stopped because under British law foxes can be shot as controlled predators because of the risk they may pose to livestock.
A spokeswoman for the organisation re-emphasised that people should call their hotline straight away if they do find any dead foxes in the area and they should avoid moving the body.
Those with information should call the on Natural England Hotline on 0800321600.
