Late night weeding, litter picking, and prayers for fine weather...it could only mean one thing - the Anglia in Bloom judges were visiting Filby.

The village was looking as good as it could as bright sunshine delivered the perfect conditions for a stroll around the village inspecting the blooms and various community projects.

Derek Nicker, of Filby in Bloom, said gardeners across Norfolk had struggled against the wet weather meaning flowers were not nearly as advanced as they should be.

However, he and chairman Adrian Thompson always enjoyed the judges’ visit after so many years of involvement with the competition.

Visiting were president of Anglia in Bloom Brian Thornton and fellow judge Phillip Feller from Caister.

As well as having a good look round they stayed on to take refreshments and mingle with the many people involved in the green-fingered scheme.
