Crews from Gorleston and Great Yarmouth were in the town to deal with floods around Beighton Road, New Road and The Street.

The Co-op store on The Street was closed as a result of the flooding. There were also reports of minor flooding at the Barclays bank and at the petrol station by Acle roundabout.

Staff were reportedly using buckets to bail out the shops.

In Beighton Road three homes are reportedly flooded.

Debbie Carter, who works on the front desk at Acle Medical Centre on Bridgwell Road, said: 'It was quite dramatic. Our car park was underwater and nearby roads were flooded as well.

'It has been raining on and off all day but at that time it had been raining torrentially non-stop for about 45 minutes.'

Sophie Lily-Davis, 34, said: 'I saw the Co-Op closed off as there was quite a bit of water inside. The fire crews did a great job to pump out the water and prevent it from getting any worse.

'It is still raining heavily so hopefully there are no reoccurrences.'

It came during a day of heavy rain in the region, with a Met Office weather warning for rain in place for much of the country.

In Little Plumstead, Salhouse Road was also flooded.

South Norfolk Police also tweeted images of flooding at Station Lane and Station Road in Wymondham.

While it was not in the same site, the stretch of Station Road under the railway bridge, just metres down the road, has been a notorious flooding zone in recent years, until repair work largely solved the problem last year.
