AN 18-year-old man was left with bruising to his leg after he got his foot stuck in some railings on a Great Yarmouth bridge this morning.

Thomas Hall was walking along Vauxhall Bridge when his foot got trapped in the railings at about 10am. Firefighters used hydraulic spreaders to free Mr Hall who had been on his way to the Yarmouth train station to get to Norwich.

Mr Hall, who lives in Nelson Road South and is unemployed, said: “It was quite scary.”

Martin Barsby, a spokesman for the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a young man with his foot stuck between the vertical railings on Vauxhall bridge. A crew from Yarmouth used the hydraulic spreaders to ease the railings apart and free him. The man said he slipped while looking at the river.”

In November, emergency work was carried out on the bridge, which links the station and Asda store to North Quay, after a cyclist was hurt when his push bike's wheel got jammed.
