Norfolk fire service stretched as seven emergencies reported in half an hour

The Norfolk fire service is being stretched to its limit after seven incidents broke out across the county in ten minutes.

Crews have been called to major incidents such as a crop blaze in Hoveton, and a fire in the open in Neatishead.

Between 4.10pm and 4.40pm this evening, fire fighters were called to fires in Great Yarmouth, King’s Lynn, North Walsham, Thorpe Marriott and Grimston.

They were also at the scene of the major fire in Hoveton, where 58 firefighters were in attendance.

A call came in at 4.09pm to reports of a small fire breaking out near a bridge in Wisbech Road, King’s Lynn.

An appliance from Heacham attended the incident, with the police also in attendance.

The next incident occured six minutes later, when a crew was called to assist the ambulance service in Thetford.

Following that, a vehicle far opposite a veterinary practise in North Walsham on Norwich Road.

Two crews from Mundesley and Sheringham attended the incident, and left the scene around 20 minutes later.

A minute later, crews were called to a house fire in Lynn Road, Grimston, after a cooking hob had set alight.

Only one appliance was needed, and the firefighters left the scene at 4.47pm.

Two incidents were then reported to the emergency services in Great Yarmouth, at 4.38pm and 4.43pm.

The first was a vehicle fire near a car park in Albion Road, which was put out in five minutes.

At 4.43pm, Great Yarmouth crews were also called to an incident of a child being trapped inside a car in Seafield Close.

At 4.39pm, crews were also called to a blaze in bin in Thorpe Marriott. The police were also called to the incident in Pendlesham Rise.

Firefighters were called after arcing electrical cables sparked a blaze in a building in Great Yarmouth.


Another drink-driver has been arrested in Norfolk overnight as police continue their winter drink and drug driving campaign.


Traffic came to a standstill on Acle Straight, off the A47 after an abnormal load was transported through Great Yarmouth today.


After a soggy start to the weekend retailers are hoping shoppers will venture out in greater numbers today after a slump in footfall on Saturday.
